◆十日の菊、六日の菖蒲 Tooka(10ka) no kiku, muika(6ka) no shoubu(ayame).
- 解釈：九月九日重陽（ちょうよう）の節句には菊酒などで、五月五日の端午（たんご）の節句には菖蒲湯で祝う習慣がある。それが一日遅れになったのでは何の意味もないところから、時機を失したもの、肝心の時に間に合わないことのたとえ。
- Literal：Chrysanthemum of the 10th, iris of the 6th. It is not doing when important.
- Interpretation：When it is important, it is not enough. It is too late to grieve when the chance is past.
- 類義：後（あと）の祭り。諍（いさか）い果てての乳切木（ちぎりぎ）。盆過ぎての鯖商い。
